WHERE YOU CAN SELL CONTRABAND IN STARFIELD
Not many places deal in smuggled goods, but you can sell Contraband at the Trade Authority Kiosks as they thankfully don’t have hangups. They will happily get it off your hands and, better still, they do have money at hand than most of the sellers.
The joy of involving in a crime might be a huge gain, but the real reward for smuggling Contraband in Starfield is the profits you get from getting it sold.
THE DEN
The Den is the best spot to get your stolen goods sold early on in Starfield. It’s a space station in the Wolf system. It not only has a Trade Authority store and a kiosk that is less than 15 15-second walk from your ship, but those who run the station won’t check or scan your ship for contraband at all when you dock. It means that you can jump easily into the Den, offload credits worth thousands of illegal goods, and then get back on your ship – without alerting the authorities.
You however need to know that as long as you manage to get your stuff past customs, you’ll find a yellow Trade Authority Kiosk at almost every settlement with a spaceport.
It’s rare for you to find full trade authority storefronts, but you’ll find one in Cydonia on Mars in the Sol system and a big flashy one in Neon on Volii II in the Volii system. The Trade Authority vendor is said to have over 11,000 credits, which makes it easier to sell more in little time. You can also reset the vendor’s credits by having to wait for 48 hours. You can choose to sit or sleep for 24 hours and then do it once more. At the front of the Trade Authority, there are a few chairs in front for your convenience.
It’s most likely you come across a Trade Authority Merchant ship roaming space, but given every other event that can occur, it’s good that you go ahead and journey to the assured spot to sell. Make sure you also invest in Commerce Skill if you want to make more money from your difficult hustling work. You should also get a social skill as early as you. These skills allow you to sell more at about 10% scales and more with each rank.

We have the Aurora, Harvested Organs, Stolen Artwork, Xenowarfare Tech, Sentiment AI Adapters, Mech Components, Va’Ruun Heretic Writings. There’s a need for you to understand that before you pick up any of these, you’ll see a yellow symbol on the items.
So, if you plan to use your ship to journey to a planet’s orbit, you’ll need to sell or hide your Contraband first, unless you have resigned to lose your stolen items all of a sudden or get into a fight with the authorities.
Hiding and Smuggling Contraband in Starfield
There are three steps to hide and smuggle Contraband in Starfield:
1. Install a Shielded Cargo hold on your ship
2. Install a Scan Jammer on your ship
3. Rank up the Deception skill. This is optional, but highly recommended if you’re consistently smuggling Contraband and avoiding being caught.
The Shielded Cargo does not guarantee that your Contraband won’t be detected, but it reduces the chances of getting caught smuggling it. Also, installing a Scan Jammer on your ship further reduces the chances of getting caught.
Having a Shielded Cargo Hold helps you put all of your Contraband in your ship storage to keep it from going through scans, but it isn’t enough to stop contraband from being detected, it only reduces the chances of possible detection.
It’s possible to get a Shielded Cargo Hold or a ship with one already installed, from Lon Anderssen at the Red Mile on Porrima III in the Porrima Star System.
Lon is just behind the yellow door by the desk as you enter the Red Mile. Choose the Trader Railstar if you want to buy a ship with an option in the purchase screen Cargo Hold.
Go to the shipbuilder option with Lon if you want to buy a Shielded Cargo Hold. Make sure nothing is highlighted, and then select the Add button and tab over to the cargo hold menu. It’s a lot cheaper than acquiring a new ship.
You can also get Shielded Cargo Holds from Crimson Fleet ships that you highjack. It’s a lot cheaper than buying a ship.
